At the end of season 10 we find ourselves - again - 8-2, winning a wildcard (a tight game against La Mesa) before going out in the divisionals to California, who then went on to beat Stratford. We lost three regular season games for a combined 10 points, which is about as tight as it gets, and overall, I'm pretty pleased with the way the team is maintaining it's level. This year's pro-bowlers include perennials DE Lacie, OLB Lechlade and R Cassington, along with ILB Plumstead and WR Grove (our first ever offensive pro-bowler, I suspect). K Begbroke - the league's high scorer - was remarkably overlooked. Onwards to season 11...

Week 9: This week's MVP has to be RB Tilbury with a personal best of 164 yards and a TD. Not playing RB Marlow (to make sure he was fit for the Steelers week 10 clash) was a bit of a risk, but Tilbury stepped into the breach and carried the game. Next week's game against the Steelers, with them banged up and us fully fit, is the best chance we've ever had for a win against our arch-rivals.

Most of the way through the season and we're 7-1, with a single loss to guess who. Begbroke is the league's top scorer, though CB Dulwich gets an honourable mention since he's top of the NFC interceptions pile. Week 9 sees us host Calgary. Week 10 takes us back to Stratford for what should be one hell of a showdown after the week 4 23-20 loss.

With Coach Lay due to undergo eye surgery (seriously!) later today, the game plan is in and the Terror Camp may or may not be commenting too much on the results of the week's games.

The start of season 10. The offence is a little stronger with the addition of TE Freamon. The defence is pretty much as good as it was last year, despite half the defensive line migrating to Mendez. Can we unseat the Steelers? Only time - and week 4 - will tell. Could do with some more coaches since most of them upped and left.

The end of season 9 is curiously like the end of season 8. We finished 8-2, beat one team in the play-offs and then got knocked out by the dominant Steelers. Coach Sherrington called this team the "second best team in the NFL", and he may well be right. The defence is capable of holding the Steelers to short yardage, but the offence can't quite get it done. The four pro-bowlers are OLB Lechlade, ILBs Plumstead and Whiphand and R Cassington. ILB Whiphand is lucky to get there, DE Lacie and RB Marlow were arguably overlooked.

Halfway through season 9 and we're 4-1 with a single loss to the Steelers, and one of the best point differences around. However, the week 5 game against the Firebirds was really bruising (G,F,C) and may well scupper our usually efficient defence. Not only are we second in the division, we're second in the injuries list as well... Time to see what the back-ups can do.

With the departure of DE Caversham, we are down to two players from when I took over the team - and none of the originals. How things move on. We welcome RBs Khouri and Guerreo to the line up; hopefully they will add a little offensive punch that has been lacking. The schedule looks interesting and may hinge on the first game of the season; at home to Stratford. Can we do better than last season? Ask me in a few weeks.

Finished 8-2 and beat Gotham in the first round of the play offs, only to fall to the eventual super bowl winners Stratford. DE Lacie, ILB Whiphand and R Cassington made the pro bowl (as did I). Best season so far. Can we go one further next year?

Season 8 - we end the season 8-2, our best ever, but still lag behind the Steelers who have beaten us convincingly. Tonight we face Gotham, who we beat 15-0 earlier in the season. This time we'll need more than 5 field goals, I suspect...

Season 8 - Half Way: We are 4-1, having lost to Stratford. The defence is playing well. The offence is at least playing, though the injury tally is getting tiresome... both starting running backs (Marlow and Tilbury) have had a taste of IR and TE Harwell is banged up. The second half of the season is looking tough, with several key games including a week 10 showdown against the Steelers. At home. Probably with the division on the line...

6-4 may not seem like a record worth crowing about for some, but it marks the first ever winning season for the Terror. Ironically, I note that we are drafting after at least one team that actually made the playoffs. We also have the sack leader (DE Lacie)best kicker (in points and average distance). RB Marlow was the 10th best rusher despite missing two games. We still need an offence, but there are signs of life in that respect.

At the half way mark, we are 3-2. The next three weeks see three crucial games against the Firebirds and the Saints. DE Lacie tops the sack list by some way and the defense is playing solidly. However, nice to see RB Marlow start to show the promise for which we drafted him. The playoffs beckon. Can we make it?

It was sad to see QB Basildon finally hang up his pads, but his knees had pretty much gone. It will be interesting to see how QB Cassidy's big arm fits in. The schedule for this season is tough, but if we want to be the best, we have to beat the best...

End of Season 6: The Terror ended with their first not-losing season in a while. We should really have beaten the Firebirds or Wexford if we wanted to make the play-offs, but experience against the Stars and Steelers suggested that we would have been an aperitif at best. Four pro-bowlers this year - DE Lacie, ILB Whiphand, OLB Lechlade and R Cassington; a good crop.

For the first time in ever, week 10 has meaning other than how well the coaching went. A win against the Stars by 11 or more points gives us a shot at the playoffs. Unlikely, but then again...

For the first time in this coach's tenure, the Terror look set to hit "break-even" - currently 5-3, I expect to end the season on 5-5. Not a big milestone, I grant you, but it's been a long road from being handed the keys and told that all the stars of the team are about to retire... we're still not too close to scaring the Steelers, but the other two losses were close. And Lacie remains the NFC sack leader...

The win agaisnt the Breakers was a solid win where the team played cohesively. So far we have two shut-outs and only 36 points allowed. Ironically - it's only week 5 - the season may come down to the game against the Firebirds. If we lose, then the season is over. If we win, we then have to manage a heroic victory down the line.

Well, after week 1 we have the top rated D, and the top sacker in Lacie. It may not last, but it's nice to be on top for a week... Of course, the pundits are calling the Wexford game "make or break", and it is an important game. Good to see the trainers doing their thing and keeping the team patched up, otherwise the Wexford game could have had a very different shape...

And so ends season 5. The Terror have clawed their way back to a 4-6 record after a couple of fairly poor seasons, and the defense especially seems to be showing signs of life. The worst loss was the 42-17 defeat against the eventual superbowl champs. The team is young and should be improved for next year. And we have our first ever pro-bowler in OLB Lechlade.
