12/07/2010 - GREAT SCOTT, NOT! SPEAKMAN REACTS TO BLUES HC. Reaction from everywhere poured in regarding the epic fail of a press conference with Coach Scott and WR Kweli. "Yeah, I watched it," said Speakman. "Then I threw up. What a joke. To pull stunts like this to try and stay relevant is bush league at best. When you're a team as successful as the Blues you need to maintain a level of professionalism. These antics won't fly. Pulling crap like this just for attention? Now, on an unrelated note we will be selling the shrunken heads of all players who do not age well this offseason". [10/15]
09/07/2010 - Due to numerous copyright infrigement complaints from the Iowa State Rule & Ethics Department, the Sioux City Cyclones organization has changed its logo and colors. The initial agreement between the two parties contained language that prevented certain branded items from being sold with the Iowa State Cyclones logo. Recently an Michigan based company created various alcohol branded products featuring the famous red bird - holding a can of beer. Though the Sioux City Cyclones had no part in it, the move was made to distance themselves from things like this in the future. [10/14]
15/06/2010 - Sioux City, IA - For the Cyclones this is Season 10-B. "Our season begins again in a way this week," said QB Dowd in an exclusive interview. "We're facing an opponent that is our toughest yet - a winless season. We have to get it done this week. Though 1-9 is still horrible, we'd prefer to get through this season with at least one 'W'. We'll do everything we can to get it this week">>>>> Talks have been swirling around about the unhappiness of some players on the Cyclones roster. Dobzhansky, in particular, has recently been vocal about demanding a trade. "It's one thing to be benched for playing poorly," complained Dobz. "It's another thing to benched while being the leading tackler for a winless team. The losing is hard enough to take, but to get benched just to give a kid PT? Nah, man. Nah. I'm out of here". Inside sources are reporting that a trade has already been agreed upon in principle, but no details have been released as of yet. [10/10]
14/06/2010 - Sioux City, IA - With only week to go, the Cyclones are admittedly looking forward to this season being over. "This is far from our finest hour," commented HC Speakman. "This season has had ups and downs; mostly downs. We've asked players to make sacrifices and to check their ego at the door. We've lost by as many as 51 points; as few as 4. It has been a long journey that is almost over for these guys, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Several guys have had some great strides in training this season as we've scored two great coaches". The two coaches he's referring to are former Blues' OC/QB coach Nicolas Flammel and former Blues WR coach Brian Chavez. Both happy to be working together again. Chavez will take on a new challenge as he'll be a RB coach for the first time in his career. [10/10]
01/06/2010 - Sioux City, IA - Another week brings another defeat. This time at the hands of the Islanders, who despite having a depleted O-Line managed to throw for over 300 yards. Despite forcing three turnovers and sacking Xin six times, the Cyclones couldn't take advantage of anything. They'll face the Sonics for their 2nd matchup of the year. The Sonics will attempt to make their record 10-0 against the Cyclones.... In other news, Ruff the returner for Sioux City is doing much better this week. Doctors have given him clearance to begin working out again, but won't receive clearance to play for at least another week. [10/8]
19/05/2010 - Sioux City, IA - "It could be worse," remarks Coach Speakman as he walks to get on the team plane". "That was the smallest margin of loss vs. Havana since I came in Season Eight. Couple that with the fact that we're rebuilding and there is some real hope here. I know its hard to lose week in and week out, but we're moving toward a goal. We'll get there. It just takes time". The Cyclones had flashes of life on offense at times. The best moment came the first play of the second half. KR Ruff took the kickoff back 86 yards for the TD. Unfortunately, Ruff was suffered a very serious injury on the play. It has been reported that he tore his left bicep and is not expected to return anytime soon. WR Townsend is expected to take up Ruff's slack. "It was hard seeing him go out like that,"commented Townsend. "But, we're going to keep at it. We're gonna do what we can to fight for a win and hope he comes back soon". The Cyclones face the Sonics for the first of two games over the next three weeks. [10/6]
10/05/2010 - Sioux City, IA - The Cyclones season went from bad to worse this week. They suffered a tough road loss to the Comets; the perceived "easy" game on the schedule. "We played well," commented Coach Speakman. "We outplayed them in almost every aspect of the game. We just couldn't find ways to score". Dowd, who set franchise records in passing attempts and completions this week, was sickened by the outcome of the game. "We played our hearts out," explained Dowd. "We really gave a lot out there. They just managed to make one more play than we did. That was our game to win, but we just couldn't put it away." The Cyclones have suffered much criticism this year and Speakman voiced a little of that this week. "Apparently we were one of the best teams in the GFLA up until we 'trashed' the team. As far as I'm concerned, our team isn't far from the team we were last season. A few pieces here and there have been particularly difficult to replace. Beyond that we're right where we were at this point last season. Lost to the Blues and the Comets. What's so different?" The Cyclones face the Blues again this week. [10/5]
26/04/2010 - Sioux City, IA - On the heels of the franchise worst home loss in week one, the Cyclones suffered another humiliating defeat. Sioux City managed to score a TD, but that would be all. Additionally, the passing game was shown as an easily exploitable portion of the Cyclones defense. "Yes, we're rebuilding," said Coach Speakman. "And, we expect tough losses. However, its the negative records being set that bother me. We have another tough game this week. We just have to pick ourselves up and try to right this ship". The Cyclones are 20 point underdogs to the Mariners this week. [10/3]
12/04/2010 - Sioux City, IA - The Cyclones suffered a major setback this week. One of the brightest spots in the offense, and season 9 team MVP Tabares suffered a serious injury this week. The inury came with just over six minutes to go in the third quarter. Tabares went to throw a block for Selkirk when he took a knee to the head. What was initially thought to be a mild concussion is now being looked at as something more serious than that. He will miss at minimum the next two games - probably more according to team sources. FS O'Shea also suffered a devastating injury this week. O'Shea is the best safety on the team; he is doubtful for this week. Both injuries only make the 49-3 loss - the worst home loss in Cyclones history - that much worse. [10/2]
17/03/2010 - CYCLONES CLOSE UP SHOP... The Cyclones front office has announced that with their acquisition of WR Brandt from Ontario they are officially finished trading this offseason. In addition to acquiring Brandt (S12 R2 - Bears) they sent QB Morrison to the Snow Bears for a S12 R3 pick. "We're very happy with this offseason," commented GM/Coach Speakman. "We have decided to 'rebuild' and so far its going very well. We have several younger new guys that will make an impact; as well as a few veterans that will be a force from day one. We'll surprise some teams this season and next. Then when S12 rolls around we'll be prepared to add to this group of guys that will have had two seasons of experience". Speakman added that he's more excited now than he was heading into the offseason. "To have this many young/talented players coming in is exciting. They'll be supported by our vets on their way. So, it will be a good year. WR Brandt will be another young starter for us and we're happy to have him". [10/0]
16/03/2010 - Sioux City, IA - The newest Cyclone stepped out of his H3 to be greeted by fans, players, coaches - and the media. Questions were flying as he strolled right through the media and into the Cyclones practice facility. One reporter shouted out that the Cyclones overpaid to which Hauk hesitated, smiled and kept walking. Insiders say that Hauk is an extremely confident guy and that none of this bothers him. Time will tell whether his confidence holds through this potentially rough couple of seasons in Iowa. [10/0]
12/03/2010 - Sioux City, IA - CYCLONES WELCOME NEWEST MEMBERS... And Several Draft Picks For S12.... Nine new players entered the team's practice facility today for their first day as Cyclones. Selkirk has been in Sioux City, but joined the festivities and welcome his new teammates. "We're all part of something here," said Selkirk. "Whatever in the world that might be". Laughter was heard throughout the room; everyone there knows this won't be a normal couple of seasons. However, according to new OB Kray people still need to keep an eye on them. "We're not going to roll over," said Kray. "People think we're going to put it in neutral for a few seasons. It will be tough, but we're all going to give it our all". The rest of the new additions were Center MacFadden, Left Tackle Suchre, Outside Linebacker Bulldog, Cornerbacks Slade and Hall, Offensive Guard Luachra and WR Hasdrubal. Everyone but Hasdrubal will more than likely be starting this season. [10/0]
09/03/2010 - Sioux City, IA - To say that Coach Speakman doesn't care about what anyone thinks of how he runs his team is an understatement. "The Hoser 'admires' that I have a plan," smirked Speakman. "Now, I can sleep at night. I'm buying stock in Kleenex with all of the boo-hooing going on. The Hoser is sad because we won't be as competitive? I wish I'd only known. I would have never done it! Seriously, that's the kind of back-handed bullcrap comment that I don't care for. Selkirk is no slouch.... but if I depend on one player to make or break my team I deserve to lose anyhow". Speakman added that he never overvalues his players. "Sour grapes can cause you to say things you may not usually say. If I lost twice to a team - once on the field and another in an attempt to trade for a player, I'd be bitter too". [10/0]
08/03/2010 - **ALERT** ROB KEARNEY HAS BEEN TRADED TO FT WORTH! *** Just when you think you know what Cyclones GM/Coach Bob Speakman is up to, he goes and drops a trade bomb like this. Sioux City has sent super stud RB Rob Kearney to Ft Worth before he could play one game as a Cyclone. In addition to Kearney the Cyclones sent TE Foxton and a S12 R5 pick. In return the Cyclones received two S12 first round picks as well as Stampeded starting RB Selkirk. This trade comes as an exclamation point on the flurry of trades involving Sioux City over the last two days. The S12 picks are beginning to pile up for the Cyclones. The one he appreciates most is the one from the big bad Blues. "I'm still tasting that one," said Speakman with a smile. "I love taking anything from those friggin Blues. Downes is a bum. They can have him. Dave thinks he got the better end of the deal. I hope for his sake he doesn't plan on starting him. Well, actually I do". The Cyclones have their sights squarely on S12 as the year they start the process of infusing young talent onto the team. "I have a plan. Unfortunately Kearney didn't fit into that plan. He was too valuable to keep". Selkirk has officially been named the starter for the squad. [10/0]
22/02/2010 - The Cyclones welcome their first draft pick in two season to the team. Mike McLaughlin, Outside Linebacker from Boston College, joins the very thin LB group in Sioux City. "Mike sat atop our draft board," said Coach Speakman. "So, obviously we're happy to get him". [10/0]
08/02/2010 - Jackson Turner - "Happy to Be Back".... Jackson Turner arrived in Sioux City Saturday and had to take a moment to really accept what was happening. "I was drafted by this team," explained Turner. "And I now finally get to play for them". In Turner's rookie season he played very limited time in two games; not surprising considering being taken in the third round. "I didn't expect to play a ton, but I thought S8 would be my shot. I thought that would be my chance to play". Turner played, but not for the Cyclones. He was traded to the Bears who then traded him to the Stampede. "I didn't know what to think. I wasn't quite ready to unpack in Ft Worth just yet". Turner's mind changed quickly once he saw how much he would be utilized in his 2nd year. He started right away and recorded his first tackle on the very first play of the game. "It was a good feeling to say the least". Bob Speakman, the original reason for Turner's departure, was the one who brought him back to the Cyclones. Jackson explains that there are no hard feelings. "It is a business. A decision was made to move me to another team. I respect that. As a result the Cyclones are getting a much better player than the one they traded away two seasons ago. Turner will be joined by former defensive teammates DE Blaze and IB Dobzhansky; which he says will help him tremendously. "Blaze and Dobs are like brothers to me. To split us up would be like splitting up a family". [10/0]
08/02/2010 - The Cyclones welcomed many new players to the team this weekend; most notably was new starting RB Rob Kearney. "I'm excited to be in Sioux City," Kearney said during his first Cyclones press conference. "I am ready to get this team moving in the right direction". Kearney was asked about how he felt leaving a successful team to come play for one that hadn't won more than four games in a season. "Obviously I have enjoyed being on a winning team. Which is why it is important for me and everyone else to do their job here so that we can win in Sioux City. The new defensive players, however, were getting the most attention. Especially new RE Blaze and DT Tigg. Together the two expect to put loads of pressure on opposing QBs. New DT Porkins also got a lot of questions. "I don't know why y'all are talkin' to me," said Porkins after several questions. "As far as I've been told I'm not a starter here. Because I was taken in the first round I'm a news story? I know I've not lived up to potential, but I'm ready to work in whatever role Speaks wants me in". More from the Cyclones'meet and greet coming soon. [10/0]
19/01/2010 - The Cyclones schedule has been released. Their MFC non divisional opponents are the Redcoats (wk 1), the Mariners (wk 3) and the Rapiers (wk 9). Their one non conference opponent are the Islanders.... The Mariners and the Islanders are two opponents that this franchise has never played against. The Cyclones are 1-0 vs. the Rapiers and are 0-2 vs. the Redcoats. [10/0]
14/01/2010 - NEWS ALERT from the Sioux City Gazette.... The Cyclones have traded Firefly to the Fort Worth Stampede... The full details are OB Firefly, DE Couch, LT Kettenburg & S10 R3 pick for OB Turner, DE Blaze, & LT Basham. An official statement to the media from Coach Speakman is expected soon. [9/15]
28/12/2009 - The Cyclones would like to congratulate Firefly in making the S9 Probowl for the MFC. "The guy is a beast," said Coach Speakman. "We're amazed at the level of talent that will be playing for this team next season. We can't wait to get started and get the new guys into a Cyclones jersey". [9/14]
28/12/2009 - The Cyclones would like to congratulate Rob Kearney in winning his team's MVP Award honors. "He certainly deserved it," commented Cyclones Coach Speakman. "What he did on the field was amazing. I can't help but smile thinking at the fact that he is coming here. He will certainly provide a major boost to our offense from the word 'go'". [9/14]
