Team Blog
23/10/2008 - "Strange thing to say coming off a divisional 0-36 rout, but I thought there were a lot of signs of improvement against the Kats" Coach Dungan told the Tampa Turbine. "Our Defense stood up well, and I think we showed we're moving in the right direction, especially when you consider last season's meetings between the teams." Dungan has a point, as the Meerkats stuck the Outlaws for 135 points over 2 games. It's scant consolation for those fans who have still to see the Outlaws put points on the board. "I appreciate that we have not got going Offensively this season. Two duck-eggs is just not good enough and it is something we are trying hard to rectify." With that in mind, the Outlaws this week added RB Mitchell to their roster, while CB Walker returns from injury. As yet, it is unknown what role either will play in this week's visit of the Aztecs. "We have goals in mind. We need to achieve those and get some momentum heading into the next month. We've got 3 divisional games in a row that will define our season. We have to be in the right frame of mind going into those games and the only way to do that is to get our jobs done against Auburn." [7/3]
14/10/2008 - The Outlaws are coming off a record road defeat and face into one of their toughest divisional matchups. Last week's 0-31 loss at the Sonics was plagued by errors and Coach Dungan is only too aware of how critical it is to cut out those mistakes this week. "We made some bad decisions last week, and we got beat. It really is that simple. Some of those decisions came on the field, some off it, and I have no problem in holding my hands up and saying I got it wrong last week. We can't afford those errors again in Week 2".And week 2 is not an easy matchup, as the Outlaws welcome the Meerkats to Tampa Stadium. The last time these sides met, the Outlaws were on the wrong side of a 60-7 scoreline. "We know the enormity of the task ahead," said Dungan, "on paper, we're both 0-1. In reality, I think the Meerkats are much further down the road than we are, and we have to accept that right now. We're hoping we can show that we've closed the gap somewhat because there is progress being made."On the injury front, the Outlaws have been badly hit after week 1, losing starting Tackle Kraft and Cornerback Watson. Tratiese (OT) and Carroll (CB) step in as their replacements. [7/2]
10/10/2008 - The Outlaws face a daunting challenge in Week 1 at the Salopian Sonics. A change of coach so late in the pre-season cannot have helped matters, but Coach Dungan is determined to make the most of it. "It's not ideal preparation, but it's the situation we're in and we just have to get on with it. We're confident we can do ourselves justice this week, but we know it's a tall task ahead of us. The Sonics are a good team, but we're not just going there to make up the numbers. We'll give them everything we've got, and if we do our jobs right, we'll be on the right side of the scoreline at the end."In team news, second round draft pick, Farrell, comes straight into the Offensive Line, though it is likely that first round pick, O'Toole will have to split time on the Defensive line. Seventh year veteran Koch remains the starting QB. [7/1]
21/06/2008 - The Outlaws finished out the season with a win against winless Wyoming. Although missing the playoffs, the team gave out one award to each position:MVP for offense was a tie between TE Giles and RB Flores. Defensive MVP went to Rhodesand for special teams: Anez who pegged 83% of his field goals. The team has earned the #7 spot in the draft and hopes to pick up an immediate starter. [6/11]
14/06/2008 - The Redcoats handed Tampa another loss, but their were some bright spots. They were able to move the chains on occasion, but penalties and the inability to move the ball in third and short hurt the team. Flores turned in a nice performance, but Koch was ineffective at throwing. Coaches for Tampa guessed at a 2-8 win/loss record at the beginning of the season. A loss against Wyoming would equal that prediction. Management has upped for next season and hopes to do a little better in a tough division. The goal is to convert one 3rd and one situation at some point in season 7!!! [6/10]
02/06/2008 - The Outlaws were happy with Jones performance this week. It included a 20 yard run but sadly he was knicked up and will be attended to on IR. The Outlaws are hoping to get everyone healthy for week 9. [6/8]
17/05/2008 - Outlaw management acquired Jones from the Sharks and will activate him this week. They expected him to be used in a limited roll as he learns the offense. Outlaws' coaching staff was happy that the Meerkats are off the schedule for the season, but know their defense will be tested next week against the Roadcoats.Christian Richards, the teams top lineman, was placed on IR. [6/6]
12/05/2008 - The Outlaws are hoping to slow down the Meerkat offense by playing keep away and moving the chains. "We have been horrible on offense," said Quarterback Koch. "Our defense is on the field way to long, and we are playing against a team who beat the crap out of us last time." The Outlaws seem loose for the game because they feel it couldn't get any worse. [6/5]
08/05/2008 - The Outlaws traded guard Pierce for RB Smith from the Sharks. Smith is an exciting runner and hopes to add an explosive element to the offense. [6/4]
03/05/2008 - The Outlaws were disappointed by their effort against the Meerkats. They are experimenting with how to get more sustained drives and protect their QB. They also showed interest in acquring a Strong center to anchor their line. [6/4]
01/05/2008 - The Outlaw coaching staff is happy with last weeks effort. They hope to be more improved but are concerned with injuries. Last week they didn't have their top 2 CB and this week they are without their top Dlinemen. Coach McBride is hoping for an injury free game. [6/3]
22/04/2008 - The Outlaws coach staff is still trying to understand how a QB can throw 8 interceptions in one game. The coach was so angry during the film session that he lit the film on fire. He told the QB's, "I will burn your house down with you in it if you ever play that poorly again." The QB's, in private, blamed the first year coach for not knowing what he is doing. The coach is asking the league to spot him 21 points in all the future games. [6/2]
